The history of the Rhodes family in pictures and stories.

All Fall Down

A popular past time in old La Selva Beach before computers and cell phones was rolling down the hill. Our house had a nice lawn and when the neighbors kids would come over, we’d all fall down on the grass and see who could make it to the bottom of the hill with the fewest bruises. These shots are from an 8mm movie reel.

Wait for Jimmy.
Watch for knees and elbows.
Check the bodies at the bottom.

Ralph in the Aircraft Warning Service

The stories are, that during the war, Ralph also was in the Aircraft Warning Service, stationed in Seacliff. This was a great place, for one could look out over the ocean for enemy aircraft My dad said that they learned the sound of the aircraft, and be able to identify it as friend or foe. Unfortunately, I have no proof of this, but only my Dad’s stories. I do know that when I was a young teen, the lookout station was still out in Seacliff.
