Jumpback of the Month
Jumpbacks are short video clips used to provide the backgroundsfor opening and closing titles, special effects and other uses to
jazz-up your videos. This jumpback in our series of specialized
video clips is: Red Side Scrollers (51MB).
There are a number of ways that you can use jumpbacks in your
movies. Here's a link to a 5-minute Digital Juice Training video
by Chuck Peters of Digital Juice that nicely explains to you the
Five Tips for Using Jump Backs. Take a look and expand your
technical skills by adding a jumpback in your next video production.
It’s All About Video
Frequently the Club invites guest speakers from the video industry and also club members to present seminars on all aspects of video planning, shooting and editing. Should you put attending these and other special Viewfinders Club meetings on your calendar each month? Check out this latest video Are You Happy? to learn why (provided by Club member Glenn Mooty).
Also, checkout this superbly edited 4-minute video produced by Club member Barbara Naden Rex Naden: Landscape Photographer. In this video you will hear her husband, Rex, talk about his passion as a landscape photographer and see many of his recent compositions (stills with voiceover).
Featured Video of the Month
Each month the Club selects one video to feature on the Club website. For the month of June 2016 we're featuring the Second Place winner of our 2015 Golden DVD Awards, namely 60 Lakes Basin (YouTube) produced by Barbara Naden. This 5+minute video chronicles Barbara's backpacking adventure to the 60 Lakes Basin in King's Canyon, California last August. Other Golden DVD Award winning videos will appear in subseqent months, so come back to see more videos produced by our Club members.

CALENDAR OF CLUB MEETING PROGRAMS FOR 2016
JAN 20th
"Creating Public Service Announcements" John Dietrich explained the different types of PSA's and challenged Club members to make one from canned videos. John also talked about Microphone Techniques for the Amateur Videographer. Jack Gorham presented a segment on Making Shot Lists from Scripts.
FEB 17th
"Film Making Magic" Writer/Director, Sean McCarthy, lifted the curtain on filmmaking magic by showing us how the award-winning "Moving Out" music video was created by his Bay Area production company, "Guerilla Wanderers" .
MARCH 16th
"Effective Titling" Every video has some titling, but very few have effective titles that can set you apart from the crowd and leave a great lasting impression for the audience. Ron Rhodes provided some tips to get you on your way to wow the audience with your titles.
APRIL 27th
"NAB 2016 Show" John Dietrich told us about this year's show in Las Vegas and what he saw and experienced that would be relevant for us. Making Family History Videos was also presented by Frank Swanson.
MAY 18th
"Scouting Locations with Video" Taking still shots while scouting locations is part of the movie project planning process. Milt Kostner and Jack Gorham shared this task for an upcoming Club movie. We also screened and discussed the movie "Obsession" from the 2015 Australian Widescreen Festival plus a Digital Juice "Moving Messages" training video.
JUNE 15th
"By the Numbers" John Dietrich explained what all those numbered videography terms mean, followed by the screening and discussion of a failed Club movie project, "Assumptions".
JULY 20th
"Normalize Your Audio" John Dietrich gave his presentation about audio variables and provided some tips for maintaining consistent audio between your movie projects. Plus we screened the Club production, "Maybe Today" as a lead-in to a discussion about a new Club production for 2017.
AUGUST 17th
"Video Recording History" Fred Pfost told us stories about his team that developed the first video tape recording machine at Ampex back in 1956. We also screend the movie "The Cyber Shot Player" that won 2nd Place in the 2015 Australian Widescreen Festival.
SEPTEMBER 21st
"Media Creation in this Millenium" Jeff Vargen, producer at Accidental Productions, talked about his experience as a professional filmmaker telling stories. Jeff was followed by the screening of Todd Gilman's "Mail Order Annie" movie short.
OCTOBER 19th
Annual Member Video Contest: screening of the best movies produced by Club members
in 2016. Also screened the movie "A Stirling Idea" that won 3rd Place at the Australian Widescreen Festival in 2015.
NOVEMBER 16th
Golden DVD Awards Night: the award presentations, screening of the top three movies for the year and the election of Club officers for 2017.
